Have You Given Thought To Your Own Mortality?

Death

Whether your death occurs in the next minute, second, hour or day, it’s something that you cannot control. As most folks would say, when your time’s up, your time’s up. Don’t be foolish and think that just because you are in the pink of health having observed a proper diet and exercising regularly that you’ll live a long life. The span of your life is not something that you have control over; death can come at any time.

In fact, the Bible says this:

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit” — yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

James 4:13-14

Of course, we should not be immobilized with fear, thinking about death all the time. However, have you given thought to what happens after death?

If there is a heaven and a hell, where do you think you’ll be for eternity?

If you think that you’ll be in heaven, do you think that you’re good enough to go there? By what criteria do you think you’ll be judged worthy or undeserving of an eternity in heaven or hell?

In the next few posts, we shall start looking at the various ways that man have, by their own efforts, tried to ensure a place in heaven after death, as well as the various theories man has with regards to life after death.
